  1. What is an STNA? STNA stands for State Tested Nurse Aide
  2. What do STNA’s do? Provide basic nursing care such as dressing, feeding, bathing, and companionship for patients. Other skills may be required depending on your employer.
  3. What Characteristics should a STNA have? Compassion, integrity, empathy and caring. Good general health. The ability to communicate with other members of the heathcare team. Basic reading and writing compentency.
  4. Where do STNA’s work? Generally in long-term care facilities, but also in hospitals, assisted living, hospice care, home health care and private duty.
  5. Do you have to have medical experience to become and STNA? Absolutely not! Training is designed for people with or without previous medical experience and are interested in embarking upon a career in the healthcare field. 
  6. What qualifications do you have to have?  The only thing you need to understand prior to starting the training is Senate Bill 160 which prohibits employers or organizations that serve the elderly from  hiring  individuals who have been convicted of certain crimes.
